I am Gabriela Cordovez, Brazilian /Colombian. Based between Madrid and Berlin. Graduated in the
Technical Course in contemporary dancer from Angel Vianna school and bachelor in Social Sciences
from UFRJ, both in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019 I participated in the PACAP 3 program at Forum Dança in
Lisbon and in 2022 did a master in Performing Arts and Visual Culture from Museo Reina Sofia.
I worked professionally with Lia Rodrigues, Marcela Levi and Lucia Russo, Tino Sehgal, Li ning and
Yuko Caseki. Since 2017, I started to create my authorial and collaborative works. My projects have
already received the support from Goethe Institute, NordiskKulturfond, Itaú Cultural, Galerie Wedding
Berlin, Lake Studios Berlin,CAMPUS PC.
As a creator and researcher,I am driven by the desire to break all kinds of social, symbolic, political and biopolitical hierarchies . the human x non-human hierarchy. My works deal with the attempt to deconstruct the notion of agency, to understand that we are, at all times, agents and acted upon by our environment. We are product and matter, rest and absence, extinction and excess from our context. I also dialogue in my practices with the desire of not enclosing things in themselves, their no categorization, the impossibility of controlling them. For their right to be incomplete, left over, defective, rejected, and therefore not useless. In this sense, the value given to the absence and the apparently valueless is directly related to my desire to embrace the uncontrollable and the incomprehensiblein my practices.
